Tottori Sand Dunes

selling point
Tottori Sand Dunes (Tottori Sakyu) is a natural monument located in San’inkaigan National Park. Selected as one of the 100 best geological sites of Japan, 131 hectares within the park that offer an excellent view of the dunes have been designated as a special protection area. The Tottori Sand Dunes are composed of sand formed by the weathering of granite and other rocks in the Chugoku Mountains over a long and mind-boggling period of time. The dunes offer spectacular sights created by nature, such as the beautiful ripple-like patterns on the sand’s surface created by the wind, as well as the “sand curtains” caused by crumbling sand, reminiscent of bamboo blinds (sudare).
