Yame City, located in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, is surrounded by gentle mountains and nestled between the abundant waters of the Yabe River and the Chikugo River. It is a region blessed with natural gifts. Known as a major production area for the nationally branded Japanese tea, Yame tea, the background of its quality improvement and development is closely related to traditional crafts produced in this area, such as Japanese paper, making Yame tea a symbol of the region’s history and culture. The city still has old townscapes that were built in the Edo period, preserving the remnants of its prosperity as a castle town of Fukushima Castle.
